hey guys,

i got an additional heat lamp that turns on at night.

yeeeeeeet the kids(turtles) haven't really basked at all at night.

they are both still very young, about 2-3 inches.

is a waste of energy or is it good to leave it on every night anyway?

do you stand there all night to see if they are using it? maybe you are just not seeing it. or maybe they just like their sleep

I think its a waste, you wouldnt see turtles in the wild basking at night. They are susposed to be sleeping in the water at night.

It's a waste of energy---they don't "bask" at night and most will sleep in the water.

If you're looking to keep the ambient air temp up and it's really cold, I could see once being used (I've used them with really small hatchlings). However, if you use a water heater, you could just cover most of the tank to trap in the warmth from the heated water.
