is this, i'm not entirely sure how to describe it, trim around the edge of carl's plastron normal?

Image

its a tan/yellowish semi-transparent sort of edge that extends at both ends of his shell.

thanks for any input.

I see that... It looks like it might have been a bit of overgrowth or something like that. I think with his next shed, it'll go back to normal though... Just keep an eye on it.

Yep its from the scutes not shedding. Definitely that is a build up from a couple layers of unshed scutes

I'd just like to add that in my experience, those around the edges are the hardest to come off, so don't be discouraged if all the scutes don't come off during a shed... just give it time :)

I would suggest that you stick to the basics of temps, lighting and diet. That would be 75 to 77 for the water, 90 to 91 for the basking, lighting to include a uvb lighting and feed every other day with pellets.

thanks for the feedback everyone...i've been making carl feel bad about that growth, you know, talking about it in front of other turtles, bemoaning his lack of self control, and generally disparaging his personal hygiene, but perhaps i should cut him a break, and give it a few sheds to work itself out.

hey, thanks...he definitely suffers from delusions of grandeur - case in point, he insists he's an amphibian.
