Hey guys, i finally got my guys a reptiglo 8.0 from petsmart for $21. Does anyone know how long it is until i have to replace it? lights are on from 7AM-7PM.



Also, are they supposed to glow Blue? cause i think its cool, just want to make sure it is supposed to glow blue.

From everything I've read it seems to be a good light. Although I've never heard of the UVB lights being blue, but hey my exposure and experience with them is very limited. I'm sure as soon as Marisa or Steve get on they can tell you more.

thanks, i think i heard somewhere under 4 needs 6 month replacement, and 5-8 need 1 year replacement, i'm not sure though.

I have the exact same as you Elliot, and yes it does glow with a hint of blue As for the life span, maybe it's just me, but mine is still going strong for over a year now. I have my lights on about the same amount of time that you do.

The light will continue to work fine, but the amount of UVB light emitted declines over time (you won't notice it, though). If you have it on for that length of time, I'd definitely replace it at a year, even sooner if you've had it a while and are using it through the winter (you wan't it at it's strongest during the winter months, when your turtle can't get outside for any natural sunlight).

I have the same bulb, and if I recall reading the information on the box correctly, it says to replace after 6-8 months of use. Better to be safe than sorry when it comes to replacing.

but i think thats if it is used 24/7....

You wouldn't use this bulb 24/7. Conventional UVB flourescents should be replaced within the time frame missibsu gave. The aternative is to buy a UVB meter and check the bulb to see how much UVB is still being emitted and then replace. Otherwise, like missibsu, said, better safe than sorry.

yea, i'll do 6 months, as i stated in the equiptment review section, i should have a job in the summer, working somewhere i hope
