I bought my turtle from petco, i went there 2 days before to look at them, the lady i asked said the turtles was 6 moths old,when i went back to the store to buy my turtle the guy that sold her to me said there was no way of knowing their age, i asked another lady the other day, and she said that she was told the turtles were 2 yrs old. so the turt is right above 4 inches in shell length,and is female,is there any way of me guessing the age? or is there no way to know for sure?

There's no way to know a turtle's age for sure. The size depends
on genetics, feedings, and living environments. In optimal living
condition, one year old turtle's size is about 4".

I don't think a turtle's age really matter. What's important is that
the human gives a good care for the turtle.

they're also trying to do everything they can to entice you to buy their product/animal. i was also told by an uninformed petsmart employee things and i just returned some of the items i had bought last week when i got my turtle

same thing with me. i took gravel back today and exchange for the bigger river stones

It's basically not possible to guess the age of a turtle that isn't readily identifiable as a hatchling or yearling. We got our turtle when he was about the size of a half dollar and in the five plus years that we've had him he's only reached 4.5''.

Yeah i exchange mine for bigger stones to. But still then they kept on breaking into little pieces so i had to take them out.
Every turtle grows at different rates which makes it almost impossible to guess you turtles age unless you have owned it since it hatched.
