Today I put my turtle outside in a big container with water and a rock. I put him out there to bask but instead he just hides under the rock. What do i do?

I just let mine walk around on the ground for a while and keep an eye on him. :)

Keep doing it for the next few days till he gets used to it. 95% of all turtles will react the same way in a new enclosure.

Ok thanks but what about the water? Should I put some or should I just leave it with no water and just let him wonder?

I'd give him water and have part of the container in the shade (or shade part of it). It would be good to supervise him. Make sure the rock is not abrasive and is easy to get on to.

Water should be around 75-80F, though it can quickly heat up in sunlight -- especially small amounts of water.
