General Care Discussion :: Feeding RES pre-cooked Shrimp

Okay so I made Shrimp Alfredo for dinner, but I put aside 1 piece of shrimp to see if my turtle would eat it since the sign at the pet store said they love shrimp. I cut it up to bite size pieces and threw it in the tank. Now my Yoshi is going crazy swimming back and forth searching for more. It's cute. However, is this bad for my turtle? Is it more like a snack/treat?

My parents tell me to not eat shrimp so often because shrimp is packed with cholesterol. Just to be safe, if I were you, I would use shrimp only as a treat.

Awwww... hahaha, I am wondering this too! Would love to see the answers. Wardley has dried shrimp as treats... so I don't see why the fresh, pre-cooked ones would be too bad (as treats). But I'm not too sure so we should wait for some other responses!

Shrimp is high in protein, so it really should be a rare treat (I wouldn't worry about the cholesterol); this goes for the dried shrimp as well. My turts get a little pre-cooked shrimp on major holidays (they like to celebrate, too) .

But if you think about it shrimps make up for a relatively large portion of RES natural diet, especially where procambarus clarkii is present. Anyway I give them shrimp about once a week, maybe less. I found out that live shrimps/crawfish is their favourite food and they get all crazy and stuff.
