General Care Discussion :: rear shell not smooth around edge

my turtle's shell is not smooth around the edge in the back. is this bad? i don't really know how to explain it. it's sort of zig zagged.

i believe it depends on how they shed. both of my turtles have a similar pattern on the back. the questions is, are they large tooth like scutes or is it a clean zig zag pattern. larger ones are scutes that probably need to shed.

Does the edge look serated/jagged? If so, it sounds like those scutes need to shed.
