General Care Discussion :: slow growth?

my RES is over a year now, idk exact age but its at least a year and one or 2 months.
by this time most RES are 4" and mine almost 3.5"
im just wondering why there is this slow growth

Is he active? Does he eat well? Do you provide him with a healthy diet? Does he have clean water and a good basking area with proper lighting? If so, I wouldn't worry---a half inch difference isn't much. There are differences in growth rates for turtles just like humans.

he is very active, a varied and healthy. i have a rena xp3 hooked up to the tank (65gallon) along with a tiny internal filter to help with water circulation. large turtle dock with a heat and uvb bulb

Sounds good! Is your RES a male or female?

Both my RES are about 3.5inch, 1 yr old. Maybe 1 yr and 1 month now

im really not sure, its hard to tell, im thinking female but i swear everytime i look the nails keep getting longer so who knows

My male RES was only 3" if that at one year. The 3 other females had already hit the 4" mark. So my guess is that he's either a male, or just a little smaller than usual.
