Hello,

My 11 month old red ear slider seems to be doing the "mating dance" with a tree log in his aquarium. We have the temp usually set for 78 degrees F, he basks quite a bit and we have both the yellow and white light, he gets plenty of uva/uvb.

Someone told me they seem ok on their own, but he just seems distressed, since the tree obviously isn't dancing back. What can I do to help ease him/her?

The dance you are referring to is fluttering. I don't know if it is practice but there is nothing to do. It is a turtle being a turtle.

He puts his hands out and cones it up above his head and flutters to the tree. I feel bad because obviously the tree isn't doing it back.

He bites chunks out of his floating raft as well, maybe out of frustration? Water is clean, well filtered, he eats well, i don't get it.

My RES spends a lot of time fluttering and nipping at certain rocks in his tank. They don't respond either, but I don't think it bothers him.
