Hello
We have a three-year-old female RES who has rocks of different sizes as strata in her tank. We've had her since she was tiny. The last few weeks, she has been very interested in one of the larger rocks in her tank. She goes to the bottom and gets "nose-to-nose" with it and stays there for several minutes. This evening, she gathered up the larger rocks and sat on top of them at the bottom of the tank. Almost like nesting. We know she's never been near a male RES. Does this behavior saound familiar to anyone? Thanks.
:)

Sounds like she's just redecorating :)

I watched two nights ago as one of my male painteds laboriously moved all the rocks he could to one spot in the tank (and a few pieces of submerged cuttlebone as well). It has nothing to do with nesting behavior, but exactly why, who knows. :D

When I used to have rocks in my RES tank he liked to pile all of the in the middle to make a big row of mountains.
