My turtles skin won't stop shedding. He's been like this ever since I got him, which was 2 months ago.

He is 5 years old. The water temp is around 72-73 F and the basking dock is around 84 F. I feed him 10-15 pellets (this ------- big) every second day and pure, lettuce-made jello shots on the days in between.

A little bit of background info: I rescued him from my aunt, who was keeping him in very poor, cold and un-lighted conditions. His shell is almost 5 inches.

I had to keep him in a 25g tank until I got moved into my new place, so that I could set up a 75g tank I bought for him. The filter that was with the 25g was really shitty so, even though I was doing 50% water changes every week, the water wasn't that great. I was thinking maybe water quality was making him shed.

Now he's in the 75g with a Rena XP3 Filter and the water is crystal clear. I also got the water tested, and the pH was a little high but I was told a 10% water change would help this.

What can I do to make him stop shedding his skin? :(

MY RES was in a distressed situation to, We actually found her in a puddle behind my brothers work (Right after there was a news report about pet turtles and salmonella) I live in Toronto, ON and she's been shedding since we got her which was about 3-4 months ago. We have her in good living conditions and everything and we've read and re-read every requirement and spent over $370 in supplies for her, yet she just keeps shedding lol.

How much is he shedding? There will probably always be a few visible strands.

Awww well I really hope mine stops shedding. I don't like all the skin that's floating around, as gross as that is. It's gotten MUCH better since moving him to the 75g. In the small tank it was DISGUSTING!

Well, I think it was pretty excessive before considering it was all over the top layer of water. But the water is pretty clear now and I only see a few pieces of skin floating around. And there's only a couple of wisps/strands on his body.
