my girl started shedding a week or two ago and still has skin hanging off of her. She is in 75 degree water, basking area is OTBA and at 90 degrees. i feed her mostly greens with some pellets. how long do they typically shed for? she is a few years old already, i bought her from a lady.

I've found skin shedding to be a little unpredictable, unless it's due to warm water.

The shedding shouldn't be that noticeable...

What's the water temp? You might lower the basking area a few degrees if she'll bask with the temp a tad cooler.

How big is the tank? How much water is in it? What kind of filter are you using? How often do you do water changes?

Are there any other creatures in the tank?

I noticed my RES shedded a lot when his water was at 79-81 degrees you might want to re-check his temperature.

Found this thread and I'm having the same issue. I posted awhile ago but didn't get any assertive replies.

The water temp is around 75, is this too hot? He's shedding like crazy... always strands of skin floating around his tank and getting caught in the intake filter... it's pretty gross. It's been like this for about 4 months now. Could basking temp also effect this?

75F is fine, and I don't know if basking temp will have an overall effect. How big is the turtle? They shed less often when they are older.

5 inches, age unknown but probably 4~5 years old.

A basking area temp that's too warm will encourage shedding (it's not just the water temp).

A high ammonia level will contribute to shedding as well.
