General Care Discussion :: Turtle Getting Stuck

Good-day

Im new to this forum, been lurking for a few weeks now. Anyways, ill post something later tonight about who i am, and about my RES, but for now, I have one question/concern.

I got our RES a "Zoo Med Turtle Dock"http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2752662, which our RES loves, but this morning I look, and he was stuck between the glass and the one "leg" of dock. He was sideways and couldnt get out. Is this a major concern? At the time, the heat lamp was off, so the temperature was a bit lower up there.

Is there anything i can do to prevent this? Or should I not worry about it?

If i'm reading correctly on where he got stuck, it's the underside that is in the water that is suction cupped to the glass? If so you can remove the suction cups on the lower side that way when he gets curious and gets stuck in there he can just pull away and it wont be attached to the wall. It also doesn't affect anything else on the dock when you remove those. Alot of people end up doing this. Hope that's what you were talking about and hope it helps out.

Sorry, I should have been a bit more clear. He is getting stuck on the top side of the dock. Between the glass and the bar. If it happens again, I will get a picture. But to make it clearer, im attaching a picture, the red is where he is getting stuck

Ah i see. Still try taking the suction cups off the bottom, that way if he's stuck up top hopefully it will have the slack for him to wiggle himself free.

If you really want a good basking spot depending on the size of your tank get like two bricks that are broke in half and stack them and it makes two nice hideing spots and the basking spot is alot better and stable and no getting stuck. I used it in my tank and my turtles loved it. Still use it in my pond now and they use it every day.

Turtles just love to squeeze into tight spaces and some users actually invert the posts to prevent hatchlings getting stuck underwater. I am not a big fan of this dock, I would suggest getting a resin platform or some cork bark and go from there.
