Hey Everyone!
I would like some help with my Red Ear Slider turtle. He's about 6 months old now. And about a few months ago his shell started to become this white color and it's not fungus because it's not cottony at all. It seems like discoloration. I then found out the light that came with the tank was not a UV lamp so about more than a month ago i went and got a UV lamp. I turn it on for as long as the sun is up but it doesnt seem to fix the problem. The white is started to get on more scutes and i change the water regularly and i clean it's back with a sponge too. And also i bought this vitamin solution and i soak him in it everytime i change the water and i do have the calcium bricks.

Does anyone know what this is? And what can can i do to fix it?

Thanks!:)

If the entire shell is gradually lighter, then it's possible they are mineral deposits. Fungus isn't necessarily cottony, but they usually start out in a few spots and expand outward.

Try giving them a few days of unfiltered sunlight. Maybe about 30 minutes per day. Mine had some discoloration problems but they were better after sun treatment after a week or two. Make sure they also bask.

You can see a pic of mineral deposits here: www.austinsturtlepage.com/Care/medshell.htm

Calcium bricks as in those turtle blocks? If so, they aren't that effective and could possibly be adding residue to the water, which could be causing the white color on the shell.
