General Care Discussion :: Am I taking good care of my turtles?????

Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

Post Posted: Tue Dec 21, 2010 2:17 am   Am I taking good care of my turtles?????

I bought my two RES turtles in late August. The store who sold them, in Myrtle Beach SC, kept them in very poor conditions. 30 baby turtles in a 200 gallon tank with no proper care. So I bought two, one of them died because it was very ill. The man gave me a new one and let me pick it out.
I believe one is a female and the other is a male. They are very active and eat ALOT. I keep them in a 20 gallon tank, untill I tranfer them into a 100 gallon in a few weeks. I have a water heater, heat lamp, plenty of water, an area to bask, and a filter. I clean my tank every 2 to 3 weeks. And feed them through out the day. They have plastic plants to keep color around them so they can feel a little more at home(: They are beautiful babies. The bigger one, babyface, is growing so fast though. And the smaller one, buttercup, is still very small. I was wondering by looking at these pictures, if they look healthy?
Feedback is much wanted(:

I can't tell if they're healthy from the pics, but you should check out the basic care page which can be found at the top tool bar.

Make sure you get a UVB light, that is very, very important.

Babyface looks a little big, but I have little reference information here. Best thing to do is to make sure each turtle gets their entire share of food and that no one is sneaking any extras to them. You might have to feed them separately since one turtle usually outcompetes the others.
