General Care Discussion :: New born baby in house worries

Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

Post Posted: Thu Jan 20, 2011 5:23 pm   New born baby in house worries

I have 2 pet turtle red eared and yellow belly since they were days old. Now they are 12 years old. My first child (human child to be clear) was born and now I am worried about health risk of having turtles in the house. They are in 2 separate tanks and I will obviously not let the baby touch the turtle or tank. I am still worried about salmonella and of course my baby boy is first priority. Should I get rid of my pet turtles?

Just was your hands and anything that comes in contact with turtle equipment. Probably the same safety procedures you've been following for 12 years. Salmonella is in eggs, meat and god knows what else but I've never had it. Congratulations on your new baby!
