General Care Discussion :: Just Rescued A Turtle...

I just rescued another RES, they were moving and couldn't take him with them. He's not in the best of shape, has a nasty tank (green algae on dock etc), and has some shell issues (will take to Vet tomorrow). He is supposed to be 4 or 5 years old, but is only 4 & 1/2" shell length. He has one of those awful turtle tanks that's missing part of the side, no basking light other than the regular light. He's tiny compared to my massive Zeke

Here he is, his name is Rudy:



His shell seems to come to a point in the middle instead of rounded (my guess is malnutrition, He was just fed pellets and nothing else)


Shell issues:


Size (I had to start at the 10 on the ruler as it's missing 1-4 with an add for Iams lol)

Am I correct in assuming that since 'he' has shorter nails and is 4-5 years old that he is actually a 'she'?

All in all (with what you have described) he appears to be in decent shape. Given a bit of time will be all happy and big

The turtle does look like a girl, a pic of the underside of the tail would help. I agree that she looks to be in decent shape, I'm not sure what the issue is from the scute (if it's a remnant of a shedding scute or a damaged one).
