General Care Discussion :: Herp first aid kit

Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

This is the kit I keep around the house for emergencies. Thought I'd post it here in case anyone finds it useful. Items marked with a * are optional if you're only planning for turtles (I have a bearded dragon as well, so my kit has to cover all my herps). Don't forget to replace supplies as they expire.

silver sulfadiazine
Betadine (povidone-iodine, a topical microbicide)
Nolvasan or Neosporin (antiseptic)
unflavored Pedialyte
KwikStop
saline contact lens solution, non-protein-removing variety (sterile rinse)
Q-tips
small, sharp scissors
fine tweezers
eyedroppers
hemostats or forceps (surgical grasping tool similar to needle-nosed pliers, available from any medical supply store)
*baby nail clippers
*small nail file
soft-bristled toothbrush
syringe
paper tape (not regular medical tape, as this can damage skin on removal)
gauze pads
old (clean) towels
emergency phone numbers

This is a great list. For us RES only owners could you mark the items on this list that aren't needed for RES only homes?

Thank you!!

Sure thing! It's just the nail care stuff, really. I have to keep my beardie's claws in check for the sake of my skin.
