General Care Discussion :: Feeding ideas?

So I'm holding off from feeding my 3 res in my tanks as it gets dirty quick.. I'm trying to save up a bit and by the end of next week I'll probably have enough for a fluval 405 canister filter. I have tried filling an entire bucket gallon, their older tank... and they seem to hate it. They run away except for one who's personality doesn't give a crap about where he is unless he gets food the other two runs away just when im about to feed them. I Any suggestions?

you can alwasy feed them in the bath tub...
