General Care Discussion :: Adding a RES to the tank.

My RES has been alone for years and I was just offered another from a friend and I was curious to see what you all thought about putting them together. I'm not entirely sure how old the one that I was offered is but he is 6 or 7 inches long and so is my current turtle Koopa. (I'm not entirely sure how old Koopa is either because he was also given to me by a friend) For now I have a 20 gallon tank that is about half way full with a filter.

First if all, a 20 G is suitable for a 2" turtle. You need at least a 50 my friend.

And with the other turtle. They will fight and it will be bloody, so no to that as well.

You should really do some research on the aquarium. The 20 gallon is way to small so until you get a bigger tank, you would buy a cover for the top (egg crate is cheap and you can cut it by tapping it with a metal file..very easy to work with) and fill up your tank at least 3/4ths..make sure you have the basking area. What would be better is to build a temporary aboive tank basking area (you can use the egg crate for that) so you can fill the tank up all the way until you get a bigger tank.

Definitely do not take the other turtle. I have to buy a 150 gallon for my two and one of them bit the other's tail off.

The tank I have right now was only temporary. I had it on hand when I was given Koopa..so I used it. But I will hopefully be getting a bigger tank this weekend once I get paid. Thank you for the advice, I always feel bad when people can't care for their pets but in reality I don't have the space for another tank in my small apartment. Thank you for the advice!
