General Care Discussion :: Proper lighting for my RES turtle tank?

I have a 40 gallon breeder tank for my little guy, Wizzle, to enjoy. I've had him for 4 months and he is approx. 2-years-old. I want to make sure that I am offering him the proper light. I've got a 75watt flukers basking bulb on there now with a clamp lamp. Everyone tells me differently, but I need to know... does my turtle also need a UV bulb as well? If so which is recommended?? Any help is appreciated.

Turtle do in fact need UV light. UVA & UVB are essential to your turt's health. Just click on the "Lighting & Basking" tab on the top right of the screen. While you're at it, check out some of the other topics as well. There's a ton of info on this site.

Your basking light already has UVA you need a special bulb in addition to your basking bulb that provides UVB. They can be found in any pet store. Just make sure it says provides UVB specifically other wise it doesn't.

I'm going to pick up a UVB bulb on Monday. How bad is it that he hasn't had one for the past few months? Will this end up stunting his growth in the long run?

I added a Repti Glo UVB spiral 5.0/26 watt bulb today. Is this good for him?
