I find that the littler bites to be painful if they get to hang on for a while. I guess because their "beak" is a lot sharper when they are younger.

Heh, my smaller turtles are nippy, but I make it a point to avoid my adult turtle's mouth. Usually if she bites us by accident she immediately pulls back but... we took her to the vet recently, and man, she was angry! To give her the shot, my mother held her back end, the vet held her front foot down, and I put a tongue depressor in her mouth that she almost broke! That is how strong her bite is. At one point she bit the vet on the hand too.

Second time around for a shot, we didn't accompany them into the exam room, they said we didn't have to, took about 15 minutes for them to give her the shot, that's the fight that she put up. And it's not just the biting, it's them nails of hers too, she scratches a lot.

Haha initiation! I think everyone gets bit at some point. I didnt get bit until mine was about 6 inches... she bit the blood out of me!

theartbook35, which turtle was that at the vet? The 8 inch one? I couldnt imagine trying to give my largest female a shot.. she has a serious attitude problem. It would be a bloody mess! How in the world did they get it? Must have hurt as much as they kick around!

My finger near Ranger's aquarium is like turtle food to him, he goes crazy and splashes water everywhere to try and bite it.

I remember my first bite... I deserved it I was leaving my finger in front of her face till she snapped. She got me. It hurt, she latched on for a good few seconds. Another time I got nipped while fixing something in the tank. Just felt like a pinch though.
