General Care Discussion :: Turtle stays in a corner?

Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

Hello all!

I have a tiny red eared slider for a bit less than a year. I have him in his tank with a little pool, a filter, basking area and a lamp. Recently though, he's been staying in one corner a lot, not moving, seemingly sleeping.

He does eat and is active in his filter's bubble, but his down time in this one corner is more than it ever used to be. I'm worried he's depressed, lonely or even physically ill.

Any suggestions? :D

How many gallons of water is he in? Turtles like to swim. They also need a lot of water because they produce a lot of waste. A good filter is a good idea too. They have to drink and eat in that water so you want to keep it clean.

Thanks for the responses!

To elaborate, the pool was IN the water. It's there to break up the terrain a bit. But there definitely was not enough water in the tank as a whole. It used to be that he could be laying inside the pool and stick his head out of the surface, but now I filled it up to the point that even his top basking area it covered by a film of water. He seems to like it! He's been more active and enjoying more of his tank. Thanks for the advice!

If anyone has any more general advice I'd love to hear it! I just want to make sure he's happy and healthy and enjoying life.
