General Care Discussion :: Cleaning Old Buckets

Hi. Im a first time poster and had a question. I work at a tire shop and we have tons of 5 gallon buckets with lids and I dont want to waste them and throw them away so I was thinking of taking a few. The buckets had tire mounting soap in them. The soap is pretty much ultra concentrated soap. We actually use it to wash our trucks and stuff just gotta dilute it with alot of water. What i want to know is how should i go about cleaning them so I can do things like mix my brackish water, rinse substrate and place my DBT in there. Is putting hot water and scrubbing it enough or should i use detergent which i think defeats the purpose cuz it was already soap. ANy advice would help. Thanks.

Not sure if the effort is worth it to you but I think you would need to do a lot of rinsing and scrubbing, then a final cleaning with vinegar and/or rubbing alcohol.

I use a mild bleach solution, let everything sit for about 5 minutes and then rinse 2x with hot water. This disinfects things for my turtle, such as their eating tub.
