Is there such a thing as basking to much? Miss Hiss A Lot will stay under her lamp 24/7 if we allowed it. I've checked water temp, etc. everything seems to be perfect. She doesn't seem to act sick at all or show any signs of illness, if we chase her back into the water she eats just fine, etc. At first I assumed it was because for the past year or so she lived without a heat lamp and never basked and was so happy she was finally able to bask and dry out her shell but now as soon as we turn on her lamp she's right up there on the basking spot and if we didn't send her back into the water randomly through out the day she'd no doubt stay there all day. There does seem to be a couple spots in her shell that are peeling, per say? I don't think she has ever gone through a shed of sorts, but she was living in pretty disgusting water when we received her so who knows if she had done it with out anyone noticing.

If she's alert, then I think that's fine. What's the basking temperatures?

How long are you leaving the lamp on for? I try to not give my guy any more than what he would get in a normal day. If you're doing that, I don't think you should have any problems.

Ditto, right now in New England we have about 12 hours of solid sunlight, so i have my auto timer set for 9-9. Best investment of my life!
