General Care Discussion :: New to RES turtles

Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

Post Posted: Wed Mar 01, 2006 6:53 pm   New to RES turtles

A few days ago we got some RES turtles from a friend. She just didn't have time to take care of them any longer. We have two males. We have named them U-Two and Me-Too. They seem to make chirping sounds. Is this indictive of a RI or is it normal?

I'll probably have more questions soon.

What condition are they in (were they well taken care of before)? How big are they (shell lengths excluding the curves)?

Do they have any other symptoms--open-mouth breathing, swollen eyes, frequent yawning, tilting to the side when swimming in the water, for example?

Is there any pattern to the "chirping,' meaning, do they seem to do it at any particular time?

They don't exhibit any of those behaviors or symtoms. They are about 6 inches long, one male smaller than the the other male. They are about 4-5 years of age.

They chirp periodically all day, more when they are highly excited, such as when we are doing something with their tank.
