Ok,

I just bought a FX5 and it has been installed now for a week.

I just scored a 125 gallon tank, to replace the 55 gallon tank.

How is the best way to go about this, since the filter is brand new, should I wait 4-6 weeks for it to cycle before I install the new tank, or since it is so new just install the new tank and basically start the cycle all over.

Please forgive my ignorance, never owned a canister filter until now, and never had a tank bigger than 20 until the 55 came along,

Should I put some of the old water into the new tank? Or just fill it all with brand new water?

Oh and as luck would have it, the 125 gallon also came with a Rena XP4 Canister Filter. Should I run the FX5 and the Rena?
I have two turtles sharing a tank.

If not if someone needs a Rena cheap let me know.

If you have bio media from the old filter, use that for the new setup. Older mechanical/chemical media will also probably have some beneficial bacteria on it. Otherwise, I'd start everything clean... tank cycling shouldn't hurt your turtle.

I do not have the new tank and filter yet, but based on what he has said, it sounds like it has been sitting empty for a while.
So, I assume the old media is probably dried out and useless at this point.

Do you think I should use both filters with 2 turtles in a 125 Gallon Tank, or do you think the FX5 by itself will be ok?

If you're getting a used filter from someone else, it would be a good idea to discard what they had in it. The FX5 alone will be fine for it.

Thanks Steve!

No my FX5 is brand new, everything in it is brand new.

If I don't need the rena that is coming with the new tank, then I guess I will sell it cheap.

If anyone needs one PM me, its a Rena XP4 Canister Filter.

Sure wish I would have found the tank and the filter BEFORE I bought the FX5.

Oh well, it's cool, that FX5 is quite the machine. Unreal how quiet that thing is!

XP4 is a good filter, hopefully you can get some good money back for it :)
