General Care Discussion :: A couple of years down the road... but...

Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

If I do have a male Eastern Painted... would I be able to cohabitate another male turtle of a different species that will stay around 5 inches?

Once I am able to sex Gurgi... I am going to upgrade the tank. If "he" is female, she'll remain my only turtle. :) I would need basically the same size tank for one female or two males correct? I really only want to upgrade once. I know I'll have a huge tank for a 4in turtle for awhile... would that be a problem? Or would he/she just love all the space?

I would think if you can afford the big space go for it!!! :D that way you dnt have to worry about upgrading so often, idk about other species and how aggression with two males would work so I can't help with that one >.< so sorry.

I may have an opportunity to pick up a 96 gallon tank from a cousin. But, I tend to go a little crazy and will start planning and saving for all the equipment I will need to go as big as I can. There was this fantastic tank at my local fish shop, and I just sat there looking at it and started planning all the neat things I can do for my turtle - LOL. If they continue to put it on sale, I may just grab it - now I don't remember the gallons, close to 100 gallons I would imagine. I own my home, with two young children, so we are staying put for quite some time.

I am not set on a second turtle... and I won't do it if it will be a detriment to Gurgi... but it is so tempting with all the different species that I am learning about. And I know that I won't have multiple tanks, so I want to be extra careful with what I decide to do.

Remember with that size tank you're also looking at very large filter like the FX5. (figure $250-260 with media) I'm not saying this to sway your decision but only as a reminder in your cost calculations and planning. :D
