So I went to check on Yawara and Taro (sometimes I peek in on them in the night, but I probably shouldn't) Usually they're asleep but Taro must have been up, because she swam to the bottom of the tank as I approached. I tried to see where she went and she was on the bottom with the river rocks (she's been looking for food along the bottom a lot lately). She looked up at me, her limbs settled on two rocks, and opened her mouth very wide three times, like a yawn, only underwater. The last time she held it. I didn't see any vomit, but I panicked. RI? Choking? She wasn't thrusting her neck in or out and there wasn't an visible food caught (just that normal pocket that appears, then disappears in the front of neck). I gave her a small piece of pellet and she vacuumed it down like normal.
Has anyone ever seen their turtle do this
Is it normal?
Could the amount I'm feeding her be insufficient? She gets 5 Baby Reptomins a day and a loose handful of lettuce. She is six months and a little over two inches.
I am also trying to mitigate some hard water issues in the tank. The nitrates/nitrites/ammonia and chlorine tests I bought at the pet store are fine, but we have hard water. Could this be part of it?
Or am I just paranoid? Because I'll take that answer too...
