General Care Discussion :: Film on my Turtles Skin?

Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

I have been caring for a RES for just less than a year now. Found it in my yard last summer when it was about 2-2.5" long. We don't live near any water so not sure how it got there. Now the turtle is 4-5 inches long. I was not expecting it to grow this fast and shopping for a new habitat. I have been using a plastic lagoon I got from Turtle Shack last summer, but already out growing it.

Does anyone have any suggestions for a RES habitat?

I have also noticed a clear film on the turtle. Does anyone have any experience with this? Not sure if I am keeping habitat clean enough?

RES shed their shells and their skin. The skin kinda comes off in thin sheets and whisps of translucent thread over the course of a week or two.

Post a picture of your habitat and everyone can make suggestions. You can also check out how others have done their tank setups too. I've seen ones made from cheap plastic tubs to huge multilevel tanks and ponds. The level of ingenuity and creativity is pretty inspiring.
