Hey guys

I got a little turtle last May. He great and healthy and growing quickly but I was wondering what kind of turtle his is. He was sold as a Red Ear Slider, but he doesn't have red ears. I see someone posted another thread like this, but I didn't think Taco, my little guy (or girl?), didn't look too much like the one posted. They said that turtle was a Cumberland turtle. So yea any response would be great! Thanks.

It's a YBS or MAYBE some measure of a YBS/RES/Cumberland Slider mix. The tell tale signs of a YBS are the lack of so many black spots on the yellow belly and the lack of red ears.

I have two YBS and this looks like my turtles. Beautiful little critter. Treat it exactly like it's a RES though, because they're effectively the same thing.

I panicked when I first got them, because I couldn't find any information on Yellow Bellied Slider care, but believe me - you're in the right place. Red Eared Sliders are the more ubiquitous variety, but all sliders require the same sort of care. Anything said about RES applies as much to your pet, with the one possible exception of how big it is likely to grow. I forget the specifics, but I read that these things average out to being an inch or two smaller as adults than RES. Don't know how accurate that research was though.

MVB How many turts you own? Bout the size of my res she is 2 yrs old.

I just own the two YBS. As near as I can tell, they hatched in April. They grew pretty big pretty fast, then sort of plateaued at this basic size.

When I mentioned RES versus YBS size, I was referring to the maximum adult size, I think their's not much difference until they get pretty old though.
