Ok so I rescued a new turtle, I figured I had the room. So everyone, here is Jack, no idea what the kids will name it if its a girl.










Ok, so heres the deal, This turtle is about a year old, I have no idea what kind of turtle it is, but he is currently sharing a tank with Mikey and Lea. Jack is way (about a 4th of Mikey) smaller than the other 2, and while his previous home was not ideal, he was fed, 4 times a day and he is an eater already here. So what kind of turtle is this, and will he grow. If he grows he can stay with the other 2, if not I will have to buy the little guy a new tank, yay another build thread.

He or she is very cute, congrats on your new family member!

I'm not sure, but I think he/she could be a Yellow-bellied slider (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yellow-bellied_slider), hopefully someone who is more experienced will answer you later. I'd assume he/she will grow quite a bit, but again I'm no expert. I think you should always prepare to separate the turtles, it's possible that they will start fighting at some point, usually when they grow bigger (not all end up fighting ever, of course).

Yes, I think it's a YBS, but I'm not good at IDs either. They can cohabit with RES and have the same requirements. As with any slider, keep an eye on aggression.

It just blows my mind hes a year old and still so small, they had him in a 10 gallon tank, think that could be it?

And he has yellow/black on the bottom of his shell, like the other res do, the only difference is he has yellow ears.

Tank of size doesn't have impact on turtle size. He was probably missing out on some of the basics while kept in there.
