General Care Discussion :: New RES owner

Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

Post Posted: Sat May 17, 2014 9:19 pm   New RES owner

Only have had our new turtle about 24 hrs. He is basking a lot and hasn't ate yet. I figure he's just getting used to his new home. However I am worried because his eyes are closed while basking but now look pretty dry. Should I mist him with water to help out? I'm trying not to disturb him much and don't want to just dunk him in the water.

Welcome to the forum. They usually have their eyes open and are alert when basking. Looking a bit dry is usually OK. How big/old is he?

Not sure how old but shell is about 4in. He did pretty good last night. As soon as we turned lights off for bed he was swimming around and slept most of the night in the water :)

Glad to know he's starting to settle in. What's his setup like? At 4", have you confirmed the sex?
