Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

Hi there,

Any advice would be gratefully received. We live in rural South West France and our neighbour found a very large RES on the road. She has asked us if we would like it as we have a natural swimming pond. It is huge and full of lovely plants, frogs, snakes, dragonflies, newts, waterbeetles etc. There are plenty of lovely shallow areas so it could get in and out no problem.

We would love to have it, but are worried that it could bring in a disease, or if in keeping it we might be indadvertedly harming it in some way.

Can anyone help? If so, thank you so much!

Warmest wishes xxx

If the pool pond is large enough, I wouldn't worry about any disease. Salmonella is usually associated with turtles and children, but it's usually not a problem with basic handling hygiene.
