Hi ive had a red ear slider for about 20 years and never had a problem until earlier this year. I noticed one day his eyes were getting puffy and after a few they were swollen shut and he would scratch at them. I cleaned the tank and tore apart the filtration system to making sure everything was spotless. This did not help so we took him to a vet who gave us antibiotic ointment for the eyes which also did nothing. Eventually he opened his eyes on his own and everything seemed back to normal for a few months until recently. These past two weeks the eyes are swollen shut again. I know its not the tank as its clean and there are feeder fish living in it as well which are fine. Diet and habitat setup has not changed over the years either. Some times we put the turtle outside in a kiddie pool(done so for years) and we've noticed his eyes go back to normal when doing so. Bring him back in to his tank and eyes are swollen shortly after.
Any idea whats going on with our turtle and how to solve the issue?
