hi all,

my RES sleeps the whole day without eating anything and it has been like this for one week.... :?
it is sleeping on a rock and i'm afraid it will dry up
i'm here in Singapore where day temp is ard 30degC and night temp is ard 27degC...

is my RES having its hibernation? it's only less than a year old... :?

What is the water temp of his tank and what is the basking temp? He does not sound like he is hibernating since those temps you listed are too high for that. Instead it sounds like lethargy brought on by an illness. Not eating, not swimming, being listless are all symptoms of an illness. Are there any other symptoms such as open mouth breathing while out of the water, or mucus/bubbles from the nose?

I suggest taking him to a herp vet as soon as you can.

Welcome. Your turtle should not hibernate in Singapore temps.

Is the turtle in a room with AC? If so, is he near a vent or getting a draft from it?

Are their any other symptoms? What do the eyes look like---are they swollen or crusted shut?

What was your turtle being fed when he was eating?

thanks to all replies...

nope, my RES don't look sick except being listless (sleep all day)...
no swollen eyes or open mouth or mucus from nostrils...
it is actually quite playful one week ago...

i feed it with vegetable tablets as well as blood worms...
but now it just sleeps and sleeps, think it hasn't eaten for days...
it doesn't even move much when i try to wake it up...

btw, i didn't on my aircon...

The water being too cold can make him lethargic, and hm...lets see...I'd call a local vet about preventing it to hibernate because it will most likely die if it hibernates that young.

Res Lover, why don't you just take your turtle to a herp vet. Two possibilities for contacts in Singapore (probably more if you take the time to look):

Paolo Martelli
Singapore Zoological Gardens
80 Mandai Lake Rd
Singapore, 2572

Li Chieh Hsu
The Animal Clinic Pte Ltd
55 Lor L Telok Kurau
#01-63
Singapore, 425500

Maybe one of them can help determine what's wrong with your turtle...

my 1 yr old RES has "waken" after 3 weeks of sleeping...
its weight has dropped abit, but now it's energetic and greedy again, like the good old times :)

Are turtles not supposed to have bubbles coming out of their nose??
Because recently, my turtle's been having tiny bubbles near his nose.
