How old are res turtles when they are put into fish shops. I bought mine when he was between 1inch and an inch and a half. Just curious how old he is.

probably no more than a few months but nobody can know for sure. I count their bdays on the day of purchase.

There's no specific sure way to tell the age of a RES unless you know when they hatched.

You can make an educated guess but that's all it will be. RES can range in size from .8 inches to 1.25 inches upon being hatched. Things like genetics, habitat, overfeeding and such also play a role on how much and how fast they will grow.

When I purchased Koopa, was 1.25 inches and still had his egg-tooth (which falls off within 2-3 weeks of hatching), so I can roughly guess when he was hatched.
