General Care Discussion :: My turtle stays in a corner

Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

Ash, my RES seems to be oddly fascinated with one of the corners of his tank: He is always in that part of the tank, (which is covered by the turtle dock.) That would be understandable I think, but he is constantly swimming into the glass, as if he is trying to swim through it, (No, he's not ramming into it, but paddles toward it even though he is touching it.) I'm afraid that this is messing wit his mind, or may result in him somehow injuring himself.

This isn't the case with Ariel though, and she is about the same size as he is.

Do you have any suggestions?

Sounds like the glass there is transparent to him and he's trying to swim through it thinking he can get somewhere. He probably just wants to explore. Your other RES may not be a curious, or maybe he's aware that the glass is a barrier.

turtles get bored, my RES pecks at air bubbles under his turtle dock from the filter all the time, its just their natural curiosity and them trying to amuse themselves

Thanks, I think I'll try to give my turtles some more things to keep their minds busy... They seem to really love basking on a new black aquarium rock I got for them... I think I might add some plants and maybe some guppies... maybe.

My Zeke does this in the bottom right hand corner for hours on end, and even 'flutters' his claws at the corner.

my turts like to play with the water fall from the filter. The swim to the fall and get flushed downward and pushed away, then come back for the same amusement, some times they do it one by one, never got a fight
