General Care Discussion :: not shedding, mold on shell

Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

There are "holes" and algae on my Smoosh's shell. I have had her about 1 mo - she was a rescue from a local shelter. She has not shed at all as far as I can tell at all.
I have adequate basking area, and she does bask but her shell is not shedding at all. It is dry around the edges of each scute, but no pyramidding, and no shedding. Some areas where small sections of dry scute will come off have algae under them.
She is in a 185 gal pond with 2 other RES - no other health issues with any - had them checked for worms and all came out fine. All outdoors, they can get to basking areas floating in the pond and get completely out of the pond in to garden areas, fenced little turtle paradise. She gets out to wander the garden at least every few days. She eats normally, pellets and fresh greens. She is active and seems content. Any ideas what may be wrong with the shell?

Just give her time. Treat with calcium supplements and let her bask more. have you had her checked at the vet? She looks like my cousin's turt which doesnt get enough UV light on the shell. Thats what happens when they are kept in a dark area with no UV lights to help them process the calcium.

Have you taken a soft toothbrush to her shell to see if that helps take some of the brownish-green looking stuff off?
