General Care Discussion :: transporting an RES safely?

how would you transport an RES safely? I'm possibly moving here soon and I want to be sure that he is safe and sound on the drive there! I already had to bring him from FL to GA then GA to TN and that was the most stressful day of my life!!!! any ideas for a safe, stress free drive for Leo AND me!!

How far are you moving, what is the weather going to be like, and how long will it take to get the whole set up moved?

Memphis, TN to Richmond, VA- about a 10 hour drive! Weather is similar but a bit colder in VA! It wouldn't take long to get the whole set up moved because it would be my boyfriend taking Leo back to VA with him to set up at his house while I got settled elsewhere! (There might possibly be a short stop in Gatlinburg, TN but I would be more then willing to set everything up even for that short period of time in the hotel) ???

I believe that most people who have done overnight traveling have used rubbermaid containers for the hotel room. Something that will hold enough water for hydration and you can even use your heater to keep things warm. I wouldn't worry about the lighting, a couple days won't hurt them.

As for in the car, you want to make sure he can stay warm, bundled in some towels. Don't transport in water, or in a container that he can move around in too much. Make sure he isn't in any direct sunlight, or any drafts from open windows, a/c, or heating vents.

Thank you that was really helpful- I didn't know anything about RES or turtles in general when I came home from FL with him and I was a wreck because I had him in his little tank that I got him in and when I'd stop I'd try to hold the tank so it wouldn't move but sometimes that was hard to do (since I was the one driving and stopping)! Now I know how to do it without hurting him or worrying that he's going to get hurt!

kburen- I had lived in VA for 3 years and moved back to TN (where I had lived for 12 years previously and realize now I really don't like it!) so I wanna be back there! lol Thanks though! I can't wait to be back!!!!
