General Care Discussion :: will turtles eat styrofoam?

Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

I was thinking of adding another floating option for Shmeegster. He as the basking rock, but... a long time ago I had a turtle who loved this little floating lilypad I had. It was anchored, but still moved around a bit. I can't seem to find another specifically for turtles. So I was thinking of buying a floating lily, for a pond, and then attachign it to some styrofoam. That way, it would support his weight.

but would he be likely to eat the styrofoam?

i dont recommend styrofoam.. there is a chance your turtle could eat it? how big is your turtle?? in the RES tank at my local petco.. they have some of the lilly pads in there and the smaller turtles can float on them.. the 4 + 5 inch ones even seemed to stay afloat. if your turtle is bigger than this it may not hold him though...

They'll try to eat anything. Many people say how their turtles try to eat the ZooMed basking dock. You're better off keeping that sort of thing out of their environment.
