General Care Discussion :: Biting on floating dock

Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

Recently after the holiday, my RES has been biting on her floating dock. I have the floating turtle dock kind.

I've had the dock for quite a while, probably around 5 months already. This has never happened until recently. She has been biting and biting the edge of it continuously. I'm not sure if it's a sign of hunger because I have been feeding her on a regular bases.

Well, any ideas would help. :)

As long as you're following the guidelines under feeding and nutrition, I wouldn't start feeding anymore. Other than getting a new dock, you might be able to construct something that covers the turtle dock completely so it cannot be bitten into.

EDIT: Or you could extend it so none of the turtle dock is in the water so the turtle can't bite into it and swallow.

You could try adding some cuttlebone if you're not doing so already. Sometimes when they bite the dock or try to eat pebbles, they're really looking for more calcium. The cuttlebone is better than the plaster of paris.
