Weasing noises sometimes indicate RI. Do a search on that and see if you're turtle has any other symptoms.

What are the basking and water temps?

I am assuming you're turtle is a hatchling (around 1 inch), if so..then you're water is practicly freezing. The water should be around 78 to 80 degrees farenheit. Do you have a water heater? If not, get one ASAP. You're turtle can catch a cold without one (cold water is a killer for baby turtles). You should realy know the basking temp, get a thermometer and check the basking temps(88-90 degrees farenheit is good basking temperature), do you have a UVB light?

I doubt the gravel could have caused it, but i hear my turtles sometimes make a snap sound when they bite into food, but never squeaking or wheazing, i know that it can be a sign of RI (respiratory infection). So you might want to double check the water temperature and make sure that it is not fluctuating alot. Can you explain you're setup?

Take out the little turtle shaped block, it has a bad rep. The 20 gallon is fine for a temporary home (as long as you upgrade asap), im curious though. Do you have a UVB light? You need both a UVB and heat lamp for them bask properly.

So, you have one 4 inch turtle and another turtle (quarter sized)? Im confused..

Yes, take out the little block, if it says "prevents fungal disease" then its crap. Clean water and a little bit of salt should be the only thing you're turtle needs to prevent fungal infections.

I wouldnt jump to conclusions just yet, is he eating well? Swimming okay? Having trouble breathing? Opening his mouth alot?

he doesnt eat as much as he used to, he seems to be quite shy recently and tries kinda like hiding. id say hes swimming okay. i dont know for sure if hes breathing okay i cant say for sure but to me it kinda looks like he is. his mouth seems to be open quite a bit and he does make bubbles when his underwater every now and then.

If he's not eating as much then thats not to good, bubbles under water isnt a problem (its actually normal), but open mouth isnt..

Try keeping the water as clean as possible and bump the water temperature. I would think of finding a vet soon, if he is opening his mouth alot, then its not good.

would the other one be able to catch RI too since they're both in the same tank?
