Hi, in New Zealand we don't have Hibiclense. Is it just a disinfectant? We have Dettol. Would that work? I just want to clean George's shell with it to get rid of the white stuff on it.

Use just water. Thats the best thing, with a soft toothbrush and brush gently... NEVER use soap. And Ive never heard of those, but any chemical is not good at all, even mild soap can be dangerous. That goes with cleaning the tank too.

Its an antiseptic containing chlorhexidine gluconate. I'm not sure whats in Dettol, but people use Betadine also.

If those white spots are no longer spreading, I think it's run its course and doesn't need treatment. Good 'ol shedding will help :D

I don't mean to take away this thread, but I went to the first aid and skin care section of the grocery store and I couldn't find any hibiclense, would it just be in a drug store instead?

Possibly, although I haven't seen it in the state where I live, even in a pharmacy---I had to get it from another state.

dettol is the main antiseptic liquid used in new zealand. it contains chloroxylenol. but we do have betadine here so i think i'll use that as i just noticed a few new spots on the parts where he shed.

I get hibiclense at Walgreen's which is mostly a drug store but it also sells miscellaneous stuff, like an old Five and Dime store.

Oh, Spotsmama! I love old Five and Dime stores. We moved to this town about two years ago, it's seaside. In the winter it's empty. Can I tell you how excited I was the day I noticed a "Long Beach Crafts" store? I went in looking for art supplies and lo and behold! It was a 5 & 10! Summer togs, kid's toys, art supplies, boogie boards, flip flops.... some home decor, some make up, just wonderful shopping and searching. It's a mom and pop store, so the air conditioning/heating is loud, and the ceiling is like 30 feet high, making the store look dim (lights far away). The floors are old and wood, and scuffed and lovely. Everything is orderly but sort of old fashioned.

Ahem. Sorry for the rant, couldn't help it :)

Kiki, that place sounds like our Walgreen's, though Walgreen's is modern and it's a chain. You can get everything there. I have to wait sometimes to get a perscription filled and I just wander around filling up a basket with stuff I never knew I needed. It's my first choice for shopping for kid's toys.

That's great, but we do not have the same stores in New Zealand. Remember, not everyone in the world buys american, lol.

kiwigerman, I think spotsmama was responding to another poster who asked where to find it, and didn't give his/her location.

Meanwhile, everyone in the world should buy online. Here's a place that has it and ships to NZ. How's that?

 oops, sorry. I always try to buy NZ made products, as we're a small country (only 4 million) and it makes no sense to send our money overseas if possible to get it here. Thanks anyway kiki! :D

I agree with you kiwigerman!

If you're shopping in a store as opposed to on-line the type of store I mentioned would probably be the place you'd find the NZ equivalent to Hibiclense. I think you already mentioned you'd found some.
