General Care Discussion :: My turtle ate poop.

Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

Post Posted: Sat May 05, 2007 4:17 pm   My turtle ate poop.

A while ago i removed all of the gravel from my tank.
The tank stays clean a lot more longer now.
But the thing that wories me is that i saw my turtle eat his/her poo.
Usualy the poop was under the gravel so my turtle didnt notice it.
Is it bad that he/she ate the POOP?

The turtles' little secret. They all do it. If you see the poop you can try to scoop it out with a net before the turtle gets to it.

I don't know whether it's age or a change in diet, but Spot doesn't seem interested in it any more. He's four now.

I can't say that they all do it, but most captive RES will. It would be good to figure out when your turtle poops so you can net it out.

Haha, the best thing ever happened a couple months ago.

I was moving stuff around in my turtle's tank and then some of her poop (with carrots in it, so it was orange) was floating around and she went to take a bite and instantly spat it out. I almost heard her say "PAH! GROSS"

It was too funny.

this morning, i thought i see what it was turtle poop and very little pellets they didint want, so i ignored it since i took my turtle outside to bask, which didint, cause what she does is go all over the garden and doesnt stays still in one area..so i gave up and put her back in, well in the tank, that filth was gone and the other turtle was only in that tank, so go figure

Get a cheap turkey baster (for turtle use only) and suction out the poop whenever you see it. I find that younger turtles are more apt to eat their poop than older ones (unless they're really hungry).

For me, the picky eaters avoid it, the piggies love it.
