General Care Discussion :: Respirtory Infection?

Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

Lately, whenever I pick up my turtle he opens his mouth, kinda like he might have a R.I., but he only does it when i pick him up! He almost looks like hes biting at me sometimes. He doesn't do it while basking or out of water any, so what's up with that? I figured I'll just try and take him to the vet anyways to get their view on it, but I didn't know if anyone else has run into this problem maybe?

Sounds like he just doesn't want to be handled. Not unusual. Just don't handle him unless you have to move him to clean or something.

Agreed with Jenaero. He is telling you that he doesn't want to be picked up.

They both sound like they're feeling threatened and are responding to it (an open mouth and hissing as a warning).
