General Care Discussion :: Growing up...

Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

Hey all,
I was lurking around the board and I found a thread where a member (I think Tenodera) said that it would be nice to post picks of our growing turtles every month and tell everyone how big they are.

I thought this was a great idea.
I got Kokoro 1 month ago today. I got her when she was 3.5cm (1.4") she is now 5cm (almost 2").

oops forgot the pic

Bwaha!! I found the original thread http://www.redearslider.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=8916 thanks to Tenodera for the Idea

That sounds neat. One of the most common questions on here is how fast are turtles supposed to grow. This would help establish a typical range of growth. Also, growth rates that are too fast or too slow are signs of problems. Best to know about them early one.

I can't participate though because my turtle's grown.

Opus, what kind of turtle does your friend have? RES max out at 12". It sounds like your friend has a tortoise if your measurements are correct. Even still, 20 inches in 5 months is a lot of growth for any animal.

I agree...I realy dont think it's healthy either. What is your friend feeding it? 4 pounds of meat a day?

It doesnt have to be a tortoise either, alot of soft shell species grow to 2 feet! Or maybe your friend just measured it wrong..

Well another month has passed and Kokoro grew almost a full cm. Today she did not like being touched so I will try for a better measurement tomorrow.
