Turtle tank setups and other indoor configurations.

I have 4 RES, between 2 and 4 inches in diameter. The guys at the local reptile store told us that they would eventually be fast enough to eat fish, but not until they got bigger.

I put a few small minnows in the tank, and the next morning, there was one guy left. A few weeks later, I added 5 more small fish, and they ate all of them - except the same guy who survived before.

I'm not too concerned with the fact that they eat the fish, I'm more concerned that the larger turtles eat all the fish before the runt can get any.

I've more or less given up on fish as food until all the turtles have a fighting chance. Instead, I've been feeding them tiny crickets. They go crazy over those.

Update on this.....

my betta did NOT do well in the turtle tank after a few days! He started spending all of his time sitting under the water heater and not moving/eating/whatever....I finally took him out and put him back in his own tank when I noticed that Toby was trying to eat him!
Scum fish (the betta) has recovered dramatically since being removed, I thought for sure I'd killed him!

So....I would suggest NOT putting your betta in with your turtle. :)

Anything that swims slow or has large flowey fins should NOT be in the same tank as a turtle, because yes the res will eat or pick on it. I have fish that are so fast that I can't even catch them when I needed to clean the entire tank. Turtle won't get them. They've been good together.
