hey nettle, it sounds as though you're filling the tank with water from your water heater? your hot water carries a lot more mineral deposits, etc because it builds up in the tank. same reasons people don't cook with hot water. cold water is much more pure.

Actually, it's just a faucet from my basement sink. The faucets upstairs don't have a hose attachment and my mom doesn't want them on there, so I have to use the basement one. Whenever I change water I make it at temp. Does everyone else use cold water and wait for it to heat up?

I agree on the Python thing - I just bought one this last weekend at Wal-Mart for $32.76 and it is the 25 foot. I am SO happy that I got it.

I was literally running around the house proclaiming my love for it!

I use cold water, put in a couple of extra heaters and dry dock the turts overnight. Make sure the filter is running, and everything is good to go in the morning.

O.o makes sense though! yeah, we are going to try to look for a 150 instead of the 75 g... i guess my husbands gonna have to make another stand then! we can just take this one apart and reuse the wood ha! i bet he didn't realize turtles were gonna be so MUCH work! hahahahah! (at least in the beginning when you are just starting) (i'm laughing AND crying at the same time! )

I too have to eventually separate them, they're inseparable though! BUT i have seen Little Girl flutter at Shy Boy, and i yell at her, even though she can't hear me

i have to look on craigslist too! i hope i'm as luck as you! I'm excited to at least be able to work on their above tank basking platform for now.

:Nettle - the first 2 times i changed the water, i used warm water and then i found out that it was better to let the heater warm up the water so I've been doing that now

do you guys play with your turtles and let them run around for a bit? i guess i don't take them out so often just yet....

You know - I very well could have been 'suckered in' to buying the Python at Petco this past weekend had I not JUST been to Wal-Mart and knew how much theirs was.

It's odd, some things I wouldn't dream of are cheaper at Petco and others at Wal-Mart.

Make sure the room is warm and dark. Leave some clothes or towels for them to cover themselves. Make sure it's in area that is sectioned off.

haha, i don't think many of us realized how much work they would be when we got them. but, now that i've got them I love doing the work to keep them up.

don't let it stress you out and just enjoy them . that's why we have pets right?

i do let mine out quite often. one of them really loves getting out and exploring. one of them explores for about 2 minutes, then goes to her usual hiding spot. the others are too small to let out yet.
