what kind of fish do you use in your tank? i have goldfish that are much bigger than my turtle so he wont eat them. and some rosies. i think im going to get a catfish im not sure yet. any helpp?

As in for food or not for food?

For food, rosie red minnows are the best. They are healthiest. There are also some feeder guppies that are okay.

Goldfish are too fatty for turtles to eat. I would remove the goldfish so he's not tempted to munch on them.

Any fish in the tank should be considered potential food, whether it's today or four years from now. You should only buy fish that are safe for your turtle to eat, so avoid any spiny fish and poisonous fish and fish that will fight back. I'm not sure about catfish for a turtle's diet, though.

CoY23 -- Any fish will be potential food. Big or not they will nip at them and eventually kill and eat them. Fact of life: turtles like to eat fish.

I saw a 3 inch turtle take on a 6 inch koi once! he grabbed its fin and the fish swam away with him still hanging on!!!

I had a roughly 6 inch sucker fish in my tank, for about 4 years the turtles never nipped at him or paid much attention to him. Then, one day he was gone, and the next time I cleaned out the tank I found his spine. Regardless of what you do, any fish you put in your tank will most likely be eaten eventually, don't get attached and don't drop too much money on an expensive fish.

i just wanted to get another fish to put some more in the tank. the goldfish are a lot bigger then him right now and i dont think hes going to eat them. so ill let you guys know about the catfish.

I have some rosie reds in my tank for the cleaners, bobby will chase them sometimes for fun, but he's too fat and lazy to catch them.

I have a few mollies, platies, a plecos and a female betta in the tank. Like they have said we know that one day they may be food - but so far all are living peacefully. I have a 70 gal filled to about 55-60). So they have plenty of room. I also make sure gets his food. The fish actually compete for his food. Only once have I seen him take offense to that. So far so good. They make for a pretty tank. We left for a long weekend and I expected to see a few fish gone - but all were well when we got back. We'll see how long it lasts but I keep hoping we have one of those strange animal friendship tanks. (you know you hear stories of cats and birds loving each other, saw a pic of a bear and a cat last week - haha) I can hope cant I?
